Nessebar is an ancient town developed at the end of the 6th century BC. It is situated on an older Thracian settlement on a peninsula roughly jutting out into the Black Sea. It was an important trade and craft centre during Hellenism and the Middle Ages. Due to its beautiful architecture and numerous monuments built in the period of the 3rd century BC to the 8th century AD, the town has been declared a world cultural site and is included in UNESCO’s List of World Cultural and Wildlife Heritage.
