Habib Bourguiba was the first president of an independent Tunisia.Bourguiba passed away at 96 and was buried at Monastir, his birthplace and also where he spent his last years. The large bronze door of the mausoleum reads: "The Supreme Combatant, the Liberator of Women, the Builder of Modern Tunisia."
