February 9 is Marshall Islands Liberation day! A celebration of the WWII defeat of the occupation of Japan by United States Marines. Every February 9 a big party is held with races, volleyball, basketball, races and basket-weaving! In the basket-weaving event (above) there is no time limit. The woman who stands up first with a completed basket from the branch of a coconut tree wins. First, second and third places winners receive cash prizes.
