CountryReports is an independent online publishing company that has been producing cultural and reference content on the countries of the world since 1997. We are based in Pleasant Grove, Utah, United States. Learn more on our About Us page.

Memberships fund our editorial team, in-country contributors, translators, image licensing, infrastructure, and ongoing content updates across more than 190 countries. A portion of our content remains free to read so students, teachers, and casual visitors can always learn about a country. Paid membership unlocks deeper content, downloads, printable reports, and institutional features.

Content updates are done on a consistent and regular basis. Some items are updated daily, others weekly, monthly, or annually. All country entries are reviewed by staff at least once per year.

The answer depends on how you define the word “country.” For example, the United Nations currently has around 193 member states, but not every nation, state, or territory is a member of the United Nations. The Holy See (Vatican City) is recognized as an independent country but has chosen not to be a member of the UN. Another example is Taiwan, which functions as an independent country but is claimed by the People’s Republic of China as a province. Most UN members, since 1978, have chosen not to officially recognize Taiwan as a sovereign country, even when they interact with it as one. There are also places in the world that claim to be independent, and even function with some level of independence, but are not recognized by the broader international community as fully sovereign. Depending on how broadly the term is defined, the list may include 193, 195, or even more nations.

Our information comes from many sources — governments, teachers, native residents, researchers, and international organizations. We also solicit and receive cultural and other information from subscribers and in-country reviewers around the world. Editors strive to determine the accuracy of all materials we collect or receive before presenting content on the website. Yes. Students, teachers, and researchers are welcome to cite CountryReports. Our Internet Citation generator (linked in the navigation bar) produces a properly formatted citation in MLA and APA style for any page. Classroom use of content under fair-use doctrine is permitted with proper citation.

You may reset your password from the sign-in page by selecting “Forgot password” and entering the email address on file. A reset link will be sent to that email address. If you do not receive the email within a few minutes, check your spam folder, or reach us through our contact form.

Yes. When a teacher or administrator sets up a school account, students may be provided the username and password that was created during setup. The credentials may not be shared publicly or with people other than enrolled students at the subscribing school.

A school account allows access from as many computers as the school operates on-premises. This does not include computers accessing the site through remote-access or off-campus services. Institutional plans that include remote access and IP-based authentication are available — contact us through our contact form for details.

Yes. We offer memberships for schools, libraries, universities, and other institutions, including options for IP-based authentication, single sign-on, and multi-site agreements. Use our contact form and select Institutional Sales.

Yes. CountryReports is published in English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, and French. Language can be selected from the language menu in the site header. All free content is available in every supported language; some premium content is language-gated by subscription. See our Terms of Service for details.

The CountryReports website is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers. There is no dedicated mobile app at this time.
