Recipe
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- For the syrup:
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk, egg, and vegetable oil and mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Knead the dough for a few minutes, then cover it and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the dough into small pieces using a knife or pizza cutter.
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the dough pieces in batches, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried dough pieces from the pan with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the honey, sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer the syrup for about 5 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
- Remove the syrup from the heat and add the fried dough pieces to the pan. Stir gently to coat the dough pieces evenly with the syrup.
- Spoon the coated dough pieces onto a greased baking sheet, spreading them out evenly.
- Let the Chak-Chak cool and harden for a few hours, then break it into small pieces and serve. Enjoy!
