Recipe
Ingredients
- Ingredients:
- 500 g of pilot whale meat (can substitute with beef or lamb if pilot whale is not available)
- 200 g of blubber (preferably from pilot whale, can substitute with pork fat if pilot whale blubber is not available)
- 1 onion, chopped
- Salt
- Pepper
- Water
Directions
- Instructions:
- the pilot whale meat into small pieces and rub salt and pepper all over them.
- Heat a large pot on medium heat and add the chopped onion. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Add the pilot whale meat to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
- Cover the pilot whale meat with water and let it simmer for 1-2 hours until it is tender.
- In a separate pot, melt the blubber over low heat until it turns into a liquid.
- Serve the pilot whale meat with boiled potatoes and pour the melted blubber over the meat.
- Note: Pilot whale hunting, or "grindadráp," is a controversial topic, and some people choose not to eat pilot whale meat. If you prefer not to eat pilot whale, you can substitute with beef or lamb in this recipe. Additionally, blubber is a traditional Faroese ingredient, but it may not be readily available outside of the Faroe Islands. If you can't find blubber, you can substitute with pork fat.
