Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries or blueberry preserves
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  1. Make dough using flour, eggs and water. On a floured surface roll out the dough thinly, to about 1/8 inch in thickness.
  2. If using fresh blueberries, mix with sugar. If using preserves, remove some of their liquid.
  3. Put a teaspoonful of berries on the dough, spaced evenly, fold dough over and press with round cookie cutters or use a medium size glass to cut the dumplings.
  4. Press the sides of the dumpling together so that the berries do not leak out.
  5. Repeat until all dough and berries are used up.
  6. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil, and drop the dumplings gently, stirring lightly.
  7. The dumplings are done in 5 to 8 minutes of gentle boiling.
  8. Using a strainer, remove the dumplings and put them into a serving dish, covered with dollops of sour cream and sprinkled with sugar.
  9. The bluenoses are also eaten cold, then they are placed on a serving dish so that they do not touch each other. They are also eaten with sour cream and sugar.
